File Downloader - Command-line Tool to Download Files from the Web
The internet, as we all know, is host to a huge amount of data. Some of the content readily available online you will want to view – just view it, then move on. Other content you will want to download to your computer so that you can easily access it later.
If you want to download content off the web you will need a specialized piece of software – a download manager to be more precise. There a ton of such applications available for download out there. If the current offering is not what you’re looking for, since you’re looking for a simple command-line tool, then you need to give File Downloader a look.
File downloader is a command-line tool that lets you download files from FTP servers as well as HTTP servers.
The first thing you are going to like is how lightweight the application is. File Download weighs in at under 200KB. Even on the lousiest of network connections, the download process should complete in no time at all. You won’t even notice when the download completed if you’re on a high-speed internet connection.
The other thing you are going to like about File Download is how many parameters it has to offer. I am going to let you discover them on your own. To view the parameters you need only type in “download /?”
You are also going to like the fact that you can easily use File Download in a script, a batch file or the Task Scheduler to automate file downloads.
Last but not least, you are going to like the fact that File Download works with all versions of the Microsoft developed Windows operating system. This includes Windows XP, Windows Vista, and the latest iteration, Windows 7. It works on 32-bit processor machines as well as 64-bit process ones (Vista and Windows 7).
What you are not going to like is the fact that File Download is not freeware. This Noel Danjou-developed application is free, but only to try. Also, the demo version doesn’t feature some parameters.
